Barbara O'Sullivan, contemporary New Zealand abstract art

I live in Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand. My art practice and painting have evolved through my love of landscape to original abstract art. Using pattern and design from a variety of sources I paint original work that is vibrant and colourful, full of energy and rhythm.

Emptiness Series # 1 2007 PVC on acrylic on board 600mm diameter
"No Beginning No End of Beginning" 2008 PVC on acrylic on canvas. 6 panels 92cm x 61cm each

Working mostly in acrylics on canvas and board, I have more recently experimented with clear PVC over wet paint to produce art that is very original, contemporary and timeless. Studying at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design for 2 years has allowed me to delve into the connections between Buddhist philosophy and abstract expressionism, especially the search for the spiritual self and the integration of binary oppositions. - Barbara O'Sullivan
